The Coffie Farm — Precision Hydroponics & Farmer Network

The Coffie Farm

The Coffie Farm — hydroponic greenhouse

Problem

Inconsistent yields and limited monitoring were constraining supply to major retail buyers.

Solution

A ~1,500-site NFT hydroponic system (PVC channels, automated nutrient delivery, sensor-based monitoring) plus a farmer training/cooperative resource-sharing network.

Result

Consistent, high-volume produce delivery to leading supermarket chains; increased resource efficiency.

Next Step

Expand the farmer network program — uplifting small producers and strengthening Jamaica's food security — and explore agro-tourism.

The Coffie Farm operates a nutrient film technique (NFT) hydroponic system — 2-inch PVC NFT channels under 40% shade cloth, fed by an approximately 200-gallon reservoir and a 1 HP timer-controlled pump, with rockwool growing medium and 2-inch net cups — built out to approximately 1,500 planting sites and now fully operational.

Crops in production: iceberg lettuce, pak choy, kale, scallion, basil, mint, and microgreens.

The system delivers consistent, high-volume produce to leading supermarket chains while maintaining sustainability and freshness.
